🔦 Step 7

Place the top corners

🎯 Goal of this step

Move all four top corners to their correct positions. You’ll know they’re right when every side has two matching top corners.

💡 The idea — why it works

Look at the top row of each side. A side whose two corners share a colour has “headlights”: that pair is already correct relative to each other, and the other two corners need to swap.

L'URU'LUR' (known as Niklas) cycles three corners and leaves the back-left corner in place, so the headlights go on the left.

Side effect: the yellow top gets twisted into a fish → fix it with Sune (step 6), which doesn’t move the corners you just placed.

Behind the scenes: this algorithm is a “commutator” — do A, do B, undo A, undo B — so it only touches a few pieces. Almost every algorithm is built this way.

Corner algorithm (headlights on the left)
L'URU'LUR'
Then Sune, R U R’ U R U2 R’, to fix the yellow

How to do it

  1. Look at the top row of all four sides and find one whose left and right corners match (headlights)
  2. Turn U to put the headlights on the left
  3. Do L'URU'LUR', then fix the yellow face with Sune using the step 6 rule
  4. Now every side should have headlights. If there were no headlights at all, do step 3 once from any side and headlights will appear
⚠️ Common mistakes
  • Headlights on the right → this algorithm needs them on the left
  • Panicking when the yellow face breaks → expected; Sune fixes it
  • Corners correct but not lined up with the centres → fine, turn U later
